Memorial Day Weekend Events

This past weekend, WCLSC participated in a number of events and standby's to not only celebrate and honor our veterans and fellow first responders, but to also enjoy interacting with the community.

On Saturday, members manned a tent at Plumb Alley Day. It was nice to see members of the community stopping by to see our new ambulance and visit our information table.

Vehicle Overturned

Admin, May 18

at 0129 this morning, WCLSC and Abingdon Fire Dept were alerted to a 1 vehicle rollover at mile marker 15.8 on I-81 NB. Upon arrival, a Jeep Liberty was sitting right side up in the median and the driver was out of the car. Fortunately there were no injuries. Camper on Fire

Last evening, WCLSC and Green Springs Fire Dept. were alerted to a camper on fire at the Lake Shore Campground. Upon arrival, crews found no one inside however there was smoke showing. Fire personnel were able to knock the fire down rather quickly. It was determined to have started behind the refrigerator. Crews cleared after about 2 hours in service. ... (Full Story & Photos)

Officer Witnesses Crash

At approximately 1350 hours on Saturday, a one vehicle MVA was reported by an Abingdon town officer at the intersection of Hillman Highway and Tunnel Street (Old Saltworks Road). The officer was sitting at the intersections of Hillman and Stoneybrook when he witnessed a red Pontiac drive past him at a high rate of speed. Busy Start for Night Shift

On Wednesday evening, night shift started out busy with a pair of calls for both WCLSC and AFD. First was an MVA in front of the Pizza Plus on Lee Hwy, reported by Unit 49 of AAS. Two vehicles collided as one attempted to make a right hand turn, sending one vehicle across the road, into the wall behind Pizza Plus.
