House Fire

At 219 this morning, WCLSC, AFD and GSVFD were dispatched to the 22000 block of Watuaga Road for a house fire. When crews arrived, there was smoke showing. They were able to get control of the fire rather quickly and the home sustained moderate damage. A resident was treated on scene for smoke inhalation. Extrication Demo

This morning, members of WCLSC were happy to provide an extrication demo for the EMT class at VHCC. This gave students an opportunity to see what it's like when you have to cut a car apart in order to get a patient out if needed. They also learned how to extricate a patient safely. ... Tractor Trailers Wreck on I-81

This afternoon, at 1436, WCLSC was dispatched, along with AFD and MVFD to I-81 SB, just below exit 19 for an accident involving 3 tractor trailers. The accident seems to have been a chain reaction after one of the drivers slammed his breaks on, causing the one behind to rear-end the one in front, and so on. Last evening, JMH Cardiologist, Dr. Patterson, presented WCLSC with a certificate of recognition for providing outstanding field STEMI care. Two of our members were also recognized for providing that outstanding care on a recent STEMI. Paramedic, Jill South and EMT-E, Todd Miller.

New Sepsis Protocol

Tonight, Paramedic, Martin Duncan, presented a new sepsis protocol to the crew. Sepsis is something we see daily in the field. It can be potentially life-threatening and must be treated effectively. Sepsis occurs when chemicals released into the bloodstream to fight an infection, trigger inflammatory responses throughout the body.
