Summer temperatures in Virginia normally climb into the upper 90’s and even reach over 100 degrees at times. The hot temperatures and high heat indexes can cause ill health effects.

Single Vehicle MVA

At 1411 hours, the Crew and Abingdon Fire Dept. were dispatched to I-81 NB for a single vehicle into a guardrail. Upon arrival, the crew found 4 occupants of the vehicle, but all were out and not hurt. The driver stated that another car in front of them, began to change lanes with no warning, pushing them off the road. No one was taken to the hospital and crews cleared after about 30 minutes. ... Single Car MVA

Admin, June 25

At 2045 hours, alerts went off for WCLSC and AFD for a single car MVA with rollover on Hillman Hwy. Upon arrival, crews found a telephone pole down and on fire, and a vehicle on its top just off the railroad tracks. One patient was found inside the vehicle. WCLSC Members Take Their Yearly Driving Test

On Monday, members met at Abingdon High School to take their yearly driving tests. The state requires all rescue squads, test their members once a year and take a classroom update. Members drove through an obstacle course set up according to VAVRS standards, both forwards and backwards, operating the Crews Ambulances with the larges wheel bases. Strong Storms Sweep Through Abingdon

At 1339 hours, the alerts went off for both WCLSC and Abingdon Fire Dept for a tree down on on the 100th block of West Main Street . Strong storms had just swept through the area with very high winds. Upon arrival, crews found a large tree had fallen across Main Street onto two vehicles.
